Cygwin – What is Cygwin used for?

Cygwin is a compatible programming and runtime environment that runs natively on Microsoft Windows. In Cygwin source code it is designed as Unix-like operating system. We can install on windows as a tool and feel the environment of linux/unix.

The Cygwin installation directory has a similar directory layout that found in the root file system of Unix system, with familiar directories, such as /bin, /home, /etc, /usr, /var. Cygwin installs with hundreds of command-line tools and other programs commonly found on a Unix system.
Additionally, many applications may be installed from a packaging system. The terminal emulator is the default command-line interface provided to interact with the environment.
